Overview

This center aims to support community residents’ self-care by cooperating with health promotion projects implemented by Nara prefecture and municipalities, conducting education and research on preventive medicine and health promotion, and returning the results to society. In short, it is charged with the task of contributing to the community, with the keyword “healthy longevity” as our main research theme.

We support and supervise questionnaire surveys conducted by the prefecture and municipalities, and share the results of our analyses of health-related data with them, as well as academic societies through research papers. For example, we have reported that participating in social activities and regular dental visits are factors promoting residents’ healthy longevity. Furthermore, using open data, we found that prefectures with a large number of public health nurses per population had a lower rate of COVID-19 infection (incidence rate), and that non-restorative sleep (i.e., the feeling of being unrested after sleep) among Japanese people improved during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Going forward, we aim to further strengthen cooperation with Nara Prefecture and local governments to promote proactive health maintenance, health promotion, and disease prevention at both the individual and community levels, as well as contribute to the advancement of local health policies.
