Overview

Regarding basic research, a series of studies about effects of possible neuroprotectants on ischemic brain injury are going on, in which a bilateral carotid artery occlusion model is used. Cognitive function test using a water maze as well as histological examination are used for outcome measures. Benzodiazepine tolerance and asphyxia models are currently involved in ischemic brain injury in our laboratory. Regarding clinical research, an investigation is going on that evaluates the effects of intensive care on patients outcome after elective surgical procedures.
