Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology

The department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology at the Nara Medical University is in charge of two main services, “Diagnostic imaging” and the minimally invasive “Interventional Radiology”. The Diagnostic imaging covers every organ, vessels or urinary/digestive tracts using plain X-ray, CT, and MRI and Nuclear Medicine. Most of CT, MRI are diagnosed by the board certified radiologists based on abundant experience and cutting-edge research results, providing a precise diagnosis of disease and staging which is directly linked to the treatment. Interventional Radiology can offer minimally invasive, but effective treatment comparable to open surgery for various kinds of disease such as vascular and oncologic disease. We perform 1800 cases of Interventional Radiology per year, being one of the leading facilities in Japan, and have contributed to introduction and spread of new devices and procedures.
